It’s an app that makes learning kind of fun.

This is my fave app and the only app that I am willing to pay for, one thing that I am hoping to be improve is the accuracy of the pronunciation. I encounter quite a few words that are different when it is written and the way to pronounce it is not correct when I double checked it in the dictionary. So I am hesitant to use those new words, worrying if what I am saying is wrong (because I did not double check it). But still, I enjoy this app!

Keeps Crashing

Terrible app. There are many that are much better.

I ranked myself as a beginner, but teaches me words with kanji compounds that are not frequent at all. Why is it trying to teach me picturesque before picture or beautiful?

Then, I can never advance to the next level because it keeps crashing! It shows me the four words I need to learn which I need to listen to and spell out, and then it shuts down and I have to start again. This process has happened five times. There is no point in continuing this app.

In order to use this app, I had to first subscribe with the option to cancel. This is a typical scam of a product that hopes the consumer forgets to cancel the product purchased. This is obviously being done by this company as the product being offered is terrible.

Not very effective

The app teaches you vocabulary first by showing you the word and it’s translation, and then by having you select the appropriate translation out of multiple choices. However, multiple choice is not not effective because it allows you “cheat”. Even if you aren’t able to recall the translation, you can easily remember by looking at the the multiple choices and selecting the correct one. For example, the word in question might be an adjective, and some of the choices are verbs or nouns, so you can easily select the correct answer by choosing the only adjective, even if you didn’t actually know it was the correct answer through memory alone. It would be better if the app forced you to write out the translation on your own. Furthermore, when it teaches you writing, it literally gives you the correct characters and only asks that you put them in the correct order. For example, if the word was 食べ物, it would only give you those three characters and just makes you put it in the correct order, which isn’t effective. It would be better if the app forced you to draw them from memory. Flash card apps do the same thing as this app, only better. The only advantage that this app has is that it comes with all the vocabulary already and you don’t need to make the flash cards on your own. Perhaps this app is best for people who already have a large vocabulary and only wish to keep it. It is not very good for actually learning new vocabulary.
