Our latest release gives users the power to center themselves at the heart of the app. The highly anticipated feature allows users to boost moments— designed to help elevate your favorite photos and make sure that you're seen by more guys, leading to even more chat messages.
Users can access the new feature in multiple ways, including on a moment screen, on the main feed, or on their feed. Simply click the button to purchase a boost and instantly promote your post, massively increasing your visibility among other guys. Users can also boost their photos while posting a moment, which will jump to the top of the feed once the image is approved.
In addition to fixing bugs and BTS performance improvements, we will continue to update Hornet often to make it a faster and more reliable way to connect with your community!

Facebook/Instagram wannabe
When Hornet first showed up in the App Store, it was really refreshing. It was clear and straightforward. It allowed you to connect with gay men locally, as well as all over the world. It seemed like a thoughtful, conscientious, well-thought out app. At the beginning you were allowed to choose the ethnic group you were interested in. But then people started to get hysterical about it and they removed that component. (Which was foolish, because everyone has a type, so what was the point? So, Hornet kowtowed to their critics and achieved nothing.) (Also, they may have adjusted this feature in the current version, I don’t know.)
Then, as time went by, Hornet started to resemble a Facebook/Instagram wannabe. Certain members were constantly posting selfies, “Look at me, see me!” And you couldn’t turn off that feed. There were plenty of faces and lives I had no interest in, but it didn’t make any difference. (Maybe you have more control over it now, I don’t know.)
Another “feature” which I found bothersome is: if you posted a photo of yourself on your profile, that photo ended up in the main feed. I didn’t post the photo so that everyone on Hornet could see it. I posted it for the men in my area or men that might be coming to my area. This is something that I could not figure out how to control in Hornet. I don’t know why they thought that would be a good thing.
Also, Hornet has its own Advocate-style articles, many of them judgmental and critical of anyone who says anything remotely critical about the LGBTQ community — as if we are all perfect and are incapable of making mistakes. I found it really irritating and completely unnecessary. I realize that Hornet thought they were offering a “community service,” but they could not do so without being really one-sided about it.
It seems Hornet wants to be all things to all people. It’s supposed to be for “gay men” but I guess we can’t say that anymore. It has to be for the LGBTQ community and people have to be careful about how they identify themselves, or the culture-cancel police jump out to “correct” you,
I also noticed that if you “blocked” someone, they did not immediately disappear from your feed. You had to exit the program and/or refresh the page and sometimes they would be gone. I brought this up with Hornet’s customer service, but I guess it’s just how this program is built.
And speaking of its customer service: initially Hornet’s customer service was quite prompt and helpful. I really felt like I was connecting with a thoughtful, caring community. Recently I felt the customer service was slow and lacking.
Last: there were lots of fake profiles. Especially here in Japan, there were many young men targeting older men, pretending to be interested, and then trying to get them to invest. It happened so many times that it was laughable.
I decided to close my account because of the spam, because of the endless Facebook/Insta selfies and self-promotion, and because I just wanted to meet someone in my area. Perhaps Hornet still is good for that, but it stopped being beneficial for me.
詐欺師が多すぎて...
疲れます。最初はある程度様子を見て、金銭や個人情報せびって来たらレポート&ブロックしてましたが、次から次へキリがないのでアカウント自体を削除しました。
分かりやすい詐欺師さんばかりで、
・海外からのイケメン(たまにそうでもない時も)
・最初から”gorgeous” とか”my dear”とか激甘な言葉を垂れ流し
・距離情報と自己申告の場所が矛盾
・時差がおかしい
・母国以外の外国住み、もしくは出張中(で、パスポートや財布を盗まれる)
・軍隊で中東に派遣されてる(そんな奴がダラダラチャットなんか出来るか)
・自分がいるはずの国名を間違える
等々...ツッコミ所満載である意味楽しめました。
